Gender and Sexuality
Gender and sexuality can be exciting yet terrifying to explore. While there is more social freedom in queerness, fluidity and generally talking about sex, sometimes rejection and microaggressions from friends, family, and even ourselves can get in the way of feeling comfortable in our own skin.
Gender and sexuality-affirming therapy aims to address these issues so you can connect with your most authentic self.

Recognizing the impact of lack of acceptance of your gender and sexuality
Gender and sexuality are parts of our identities, yet sometimes we have a hard time embracing and integrating them into our lives. Some indicators that it’s a good time to do more exploration around gender and sexuality:

Questioning or confusion over your gender or sexuality
Feeling like you can’t quite be yourself.
Feeling torn, pressure, and lots of “shoulds” over whether (and how!) to have sex, act in relationships, or how to appear in public.
Increased anxiety and depression or feelings of loneliness, even when around people.

Common Questions about Gender and Sexuality
I feel like I don’t fit into a box, do I have to pick a gender or sexuality?
No! Sometimes labels don’t feel quite right. Gender and sexuality identities are both on a spectrum and it’s a pretty common feeling to not feel tied to a particular label. Some people find labels confining while others find them freeing. We’ll support you while you explore, labels or no.
How can therapy help me if I’m experiencing confusion about my gender or sexuality?
Therapy is a dedicated space with a trained, objective, professional that’s intended to help you build your self knowledge. Through clarifying what you DO know about yourself and building acceptance of that, we can examine what you’re still trying to figure out in a way that’s honest, affirming and unique to your true self.
Can therapy help if I’m struggling with societal expectations around gender and sexuality?
Societal expectations around gender and sexuality can induce symptoms of depression and anxiety as well as feelings of shame and self hatred. The way that therapy can help with this is to help reframe what’s wrong about society’s efforts to put people into boxes and honor each individual’s most honest version of themselves.
What if I’m not sure I’m ready?
Many people feel unsure and cautious about exploring their queerness. It’s actually a great time to talk – we go at your pace and can begin to understand any parts of you that feel unsure.
Do you provide letters of support for gender-affirming care?
Yes, we do provide letters of support for clients who are currently having sessions with us.
